SUYS: Weekly Update! 5/22/15

May 22nd, 2015

It’s Friday and you know what that means! Well yes, it does mean no work tomorrow, BUT it also means the Shut Up Yo Studios Weekly Post is here! First up, we have Mackenzie Portfolio’s thoughts on the ‘BATKID BEGINS’ trailer.

“Why so serious? The new Batkid Begins trailer dropped this week and it’s guaranteed to be the feel good movie of the summer. If the trailer doesn’t at least cause you to get misty-eyed then it’s safe to assume you have no soul. The documentary tells the story of Miles Scott, the 5-year-old pint sized superhero who made headlines in 2013 when social media rallied to make his wish come true; to be the sidekick to Batman for just one day. As a result, Miles who is a cancer survivor, lived the most epic day in nerd history. With the help of the Make-A-Wish foundation, and 1.84 billion people Twitter and Instagram who shared his wish, Miles fought side by side with Batman and took on the likes of Penguin and The Riddler, saving the day, and winning a place in our hearts. Not only is this little caped crusader an inspiration, but the sheer number of people who united to make his dream come true is completely mind-blowing. The fact that thousands of individuals banded together to transform San Francisco into Gotham City and create this special day for someone they don’t even know is momentous. In a time when there are real threats within and against our society it’s reassuring to see we can come together. And the fact that it’s related to superheroes is just the cherry on top. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think of Batkid Begins!”

Next up, Frank Mitchell just saw the trailer for the new film ‘Cooties’. Did he like it? Did he hate it?! Let’s read on and find out!

“I just took a bullet for all you readers out there. The description for Cooties, the new genre-bender horror/comedy from Leigh Wannell (co-creator of Saw & Insidious) and Ian Brennan (co-creator of Glee) sounds about as fun as it gets: ‘When a cafeteria food virus turns elementary school children into killer zombies, a group of misfit teachers must band together to escape the playground carnage’. With Elijah Wood (The Good Son), Rainn Wilson (Super) and Allison Pill (The Newsroom)?! SIGN ME UP!...Then I watched the trailer. While it looks to be what I expected, this movie has fallen victim to what so many other films have contended with: a trailer that looks like it gives away the entire plot. While I do still plan to watch this movie when it’s released on VOD on September 18th, I won’t be able to shake off the feeling that I already saw this movie within 2 minutes and 14 seconds of preview that they gave me. What ever happened to enticing the viewer to come to the theater? What ever happened to a little mystery? What ever happened to predic-da-bility? The newsman? The paperboy? Evening TV? I’m getting off track, here. The point is: I’m not looking forward to the Full House revival, ‘Fuller House’.”

And finally Michael J. Foy (that’s me!) is back from the International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and oh boy does he have stories!

"Greetings! I’ve returned from Pittsburgh! After nine great but completely exhausting days volunteering for the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), it’s nice to be home. This year marked my seventh fair. I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone!

This year, an estimated $4 million (US) was awarded to the record 1,700 participating high school students. The fair is funded by both Intel and the Intel Foundation with additional awards and support from dozens of other corporate, academic, governmental and science-focused organizations.

This years three big winners included Nicole Ticea and Raymond Wang of Vancouver, Canada and Karan Jerath of Friendswood, Texas! So what do the winners of the INTEL ISEF actually do to earn the top spot?"
