SUYS: Weekly Update! 5/15/15

May 15th, 2015

Good day and Happy Friday to you folks out there! We here at Shut Up Yo Studios have been cranking away at some new material that we are going to be releasing very very soon! In the meantime, Eric Coomber got a look at The Babadook, and he’s terrified:

“If it’s in a word, or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of the Babadook.” Thankfully, it was not a word or a look; it was an entire film. I’m safe because of that, right? Right? It’s not that I’m scared of that thing anyway. I am, however, glad I don’t live in a house similar that the characters Amelia and her son Sam live in, because the way it’s designed basically makes everything look like it could be the monster, when in reality, it was probably just nothing. You see, I’m fairly inexperienced when it comes to horror films, but not one of the other ones that I’ve seen have made my toes curl up like the few times I was scared of an out of focus lamp. The fact that a lamp was spooky to me is a decent sign that for a moderately budgeted ($2,000,000) first film from director Jennifer Kent, this movie is well done. And I haven’t even said anything about the sound design or the acting or even the general plot, but in short they’re pretty good, too. I highly recommend you watch it even if you’re not a fan of being scared; it’s worth it. As for me, I think I’m going to give it a second watch to try to pick up on more things. Expect a more full review in the coming weeks!”

Mike Foy had a few things to say about music and the death of Blues Legend B.B. King.

"Over thirty years ago, Elwood Blues declared that the music known as the blues would only be found in your local library, tucked away and forgotten. It’s a declaration that thankfully has only partly come true. The business of music has tried for decades to squeeze the life out of my artists, and created pre recorded, so called “musicians”. Despite their best efforts to clone something that works simply for profit, the undercurrent of genuine talent and ambition has always found a way to push back through to the surface. Nirvana helped to break the mold in the early nineties, Jack White, with every band he’s had, in the 2000’s, The Blues Brothers in the late seventies, Johnny Cash before them, and so on."

Mackenzie Portfolio got a look at the latest Jem & The Holograms reboot trailer and she’s on the fence, with some excitement!

“Wednesday was a brand new day where CBS dropped a six-minute Supergirl trailer. Personally the timing couldn’t be better after having binged on the Daredevil series on Netflix this past weekend (not to be confused with the Ben Afleck version); so I’m on a superhero kick right now. I eagerly loaded the video, made it full screen, cranked up the volume, and pressed play. Suddenly a loud BOOM “My name is...Kara Zor-El.” Immediately my heart started racing with excitement. Kara’s origin was flashing before my eyes, a promise from her mother that she will do extraordinary things on Earth, glimpses from her childhood memories and then cut to black.”
