Pay Per Laugh!

October 21st, 2014

So, here’s a pretty cool concept, and a great way to use technology to your advantage.  A Barcelona Comedy Club, in an effort to fight dwindling ticket sales, began using facial recognition software to charge people every time they laughed at their comedy club.  According to the reports, admission to the club is free, and there is a camera pointed at your face while you watch the show.  Every time you laugh, you are charged 0.30 Euros, which maxes out at 24 Euros.  From all sources, it seems like it’s working, as admission and sales both saw a legitimate boost.  From what’s being reported so far, there are other similar clubs that are thinking of switching over to this Pay-Per-Laugh system.  This is pretty cool stuff, people!  A company actually wants to make sure that you get what you pay for?  That sounds good to me.  If I like what I’m getting, I’d be more than happy to pay for what I’m getting.  At the same time, I’m certainly not paying $30 for what I feel is a $7 steak.  I’m excited to see how far this runs.

What do you think?  Is this the future?
